Stress, anxiety, depression, PTSD

Acupuncture can be an excellent tool for patients dealing with stress, anxiety, depression and PTSD. Mental health challenges can manifest in a variety of ways: negative thoughts, racing thoughts, feeling flat, tight chest, fatigue, insomnia, changes to appetite, body pain, panic attacks, social anxiety, etc. Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine give us a framework to look at your body and all of your symptoms as a whole, and come up with a personalised treatment that can help.

Many patients find that an acupuncture treatment can also help to process the emotions they are holding physically. This is especially true for people whose stress manifests as muscle tension or for those who have been injured in an accident. In that case a combined treatment of acupuncture and cupping can be an excellent way to address the physical and emotional tension at once.

We understand that mental health issues and their triggers can be a difficult to talk about. As acupuncturists our job is not to provide counselling or advice beyond our reach. We will only ask you for the information we need to make a treatment plan and respect your privacy beyond that.

Typical treatment plan

For people who are feeling the impact of their condition on an everyday basis, getting in for treatment frequently and consistently is key. Based on the severity of your symptoms, you may want to come daily or several times a week at the start until things start to feel more manageable. At that point we would recommend weekly or bi-weekly check ins to keep things feeling more level.

We recognise that at times stress and mental health issues can impact a person's ability to work or manage their commitments. The flexible schedule and sliding scale payment at the Acupuncture Hub can help to make consistent care a more realistic option for our patients.
