Headaches, Migraines, TMJ
Tension headaches and migraines are an issue for many of our patients. Regular acupuncture treatment can help to decrease the pain, frequency, and duration of headaches and migranes, and increase your resistance to common triggers. Headaches and migraines can be caused by a number of factors: muscle tension, TMJ, stress, car accidents, screen time or changes in hormone levels.
Typical treatment plan
If your headaches/migraines come at predictable times (like after too much screen time or around weather changes), or if you can sense them starting, try to get in for an acupuncture treatment ASAP to moderate the symptoms. The Acupuncture Hub is open 7 days a week and accepts drop ins so it’s easy to get in when you need to!
Cupping can also be a good resource to cope with muscle tension, it makes a great 1-2 punch when combined with an acupuncture treatment. Especially for people whose migraines are triggered from muscle tension it can be a nice way to loosen up your muscles and fascia so that things don’t escalate into a migraine. You can combine cupping and acupuncture into the same session or just come by for either.
Hormonal Migranes
Hormonal Migraines can be eased with acupuncture. Typically hormone related migraines present in the days leading up to the start of your period but for some people can occur at other points in their cycles. They can involve pain, nausea, vomiting, muscle tension, dizziness and light sensitivity.
Typical treatment plan
Whenever we are treating something that is cycle related we like to see you over an average of three cycles, typically 1-2 treatments per week and ideally 1-2 treatments in the days before you would typically have the migraine.
Hormone shifts can take time and we want to make sure you can get treated as often as you need to make an impact-our sliding scale provides a lot of flexibility in pricing to make this easier. Additionally our clinic is open 7 days a week so that you can get in for treatment based our your cycle schedule.
The Acupuncture Hub is an LGBTQ+ friendly environment. We recognise that not all people who menstruate are women. We strive to provide accessible and non judgmental care to anyone seeking help managing their cycle and associated symptoms.
